acer aspire 5542g

hello mates
i have almost decided to take aspire 5542g, bcoz of its very good configuration

but need to clear some doubts
1) does it support xp and vista
2) where can i get drivers for xp and vista
3) any heat problems if used in india( i mean its alot hot weather here)

why i'm going for this is
1) pretty good configuration for that pricetag
2) good processor for moderate gaming
3) infact better than dell studio 15 which almost priced at 45k for the similar configuration

please help me in taking a decision firends

hope a quick reply soon

Forget putting XP or even Vista on it... You are going to be fine with the Windows 7... And remember that it has the XP mode if you need it

Get a passive cooler, $25 at walmart. Issue solved, you basically just need airflow on the bottom of the case to help cool it off.

Re: acer aspire 5542g

well you might end up having a lot of driver problems since Acer might not give any support for those older operating systems. I don't think there would be any heat issues unless you block all the exhaust vent's...

I don't know the layout of this model, but laptops can often run pretty hot.

I wouldn't try passive cooling, unless you are going to run around with a laptop cooler at any all times, and you would also have to make a few holes on the case for the air to flow in properly.

You could try replacing the thermal pad with high quality thermal compound instead, if need be. That often helps temperature issues quite a bit.

Just my opinion anyways, and you might end up not having any issues without any mods.

Re: acer aspire 5542g

Passive cooling just means a way to raise it up, If it's got that high end graphics it's going to get hot, I don't recommend active fan coolers as you have to plug them in, and the fans are 9/10 times total crud, if someone has a quality one they cam recommend by all means go for it, but the point is that it doesnt matter how good the tim is, if there's no where for the heat to escape.

Oh, sorry I was misunderstood. I meant for him to keep the stock cooler unit laptops come with. Being that laptops usually come with a heatsink or copper bridge thing that covers both the gpu and cpu and the cooler all in one unit.

no biggie I was talking about one of those things you put on your lap so when a laptop gets hot it doesn't broil your legs, that's all, it definitely helps with airflow on hot laptops.

Search results for laptop cooler - Walmart

Better selection at a store but for reference I suggest getting one of these.

Re: acer aspire 5542g

I looked around and looks like that gpu runs pretty cool, also I didn't find anything about that laptop having any particular issues with temperature in general.

Good luck with your purchase, looks like a good choice
