HP dv7
My old Gateway P3 - 600 (750 plugged in) still works.... but no longer with a battery (No even a new one) and it is back to Win Me...becuase I'm cheap and..well because I'm cheap. No wireless (Did I mention I was cheap?) It is just not easy to use on the road anymore. Nor is my work Laptop (Fujitsu Tablet C2D 1.8) because of all the company security that I haven't taken the time to learn (Still cheap even with my time). It does have XP Pro and works reasonably well, but since I can't get through security on the road... I don't take it.
So just before Christmas I bought a HP dv7-3060US. I did not want a HP as I had one (Desktop) with Win 98 and a ton of bloatware...thats what drove me to building my own stuff. So HP was not on my mind when shopping. Cheap was on my mind ... I was wanting a top of the line Toshiba or Loveno for around $500... believe it or not everyone was "Fresh out" of those. (Must have been Christmas season) I did see a HP that had a Turion II 2.1 or 2.2 that I thought was good looking with reasonable features for $550 and thought I would get that but the "Display" was their last one... I left but now HP was looking okay so the next store had a bigger better one for $800. I P---'d and moaned and then bought it. It has Win 7 64 Home Premium. a 2.4 Turion II, a 500 Gig 7200 RPM HD (when did they move to 7200 RPM) and ATI 4530 -512 graphics Anyways I did not even try getting rid of the bloatware. I do keep it in check mostly and it seems to work much better than I recall. No need to keep your computer on as it starts pretty fast. All in all I'm a lot happier than I would have thought and I am satisfied with the exorbitant expense.

Re: HP dv7
I might do that, I did get rid of the free Norton (free for two months) and just went with Avast and Spybot
I haven't spent enough time with the bloatware to know what it does or doesn't do. I did not allow it to do much automatically. I hate a computer running me .... I want to run the computer.
