Dell Inspirion 1545 Problem
Hi,
Recently I have been experiencing problems with my Dell Inspirion 1545. I have had the laptop for about a year now and it has been problem free up untill this past week. The problem is when I start up the laptop it comes up with the dell logo like always and loads up. However, after the dell logo disappears I am confronted with a black screen with the title "Windows error recovery" Looking at the screen I read : " Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. If windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly Start Up repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during startup, choose start windows normally. (Use the arrows keys to highlight your choice) Launch start up repair(recommended) Start windows normally" If you highlight one of the options you have about 30 seconds to make a decision. I highlighted over both of them and they read: Launch start up repair: "Description: Fix problems that are preventing windows from starting" Start windows normally "Description: Start windows with its regular settings" Firstly, I tried the launch start up repair option as it was recommended, apparently. Then the laptop did its usual load up procedure. Suddenly, a blue screen appaers with all this confusing instructions on. It reads: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or teminated. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or sotware is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you neeed to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Start Up options, and then select safe mode. Technical information: ***STOP: 0x000000 F4 (0x00000003, 0x84B86380, 0x84B864CC,0x8125C330)" I also chose the other option which was the "Start windows normally" option. However, it did the usual procedure of loading up but after 2-3 minutes it went straight back to square one, the black screen with the title "Windows error recovery" This is really confusing and my warranty has expired so I cant replace the laptop with another one. Could you provide me with assitance please to help resolve this issue as soon as possible please? Finally, another question of mine is the charger I got with my Dell Inspirion 1545 laptop broke or the fuse went or something as the green light doesn't show up. I bought another charger which isnt a Dell one but when you unplug the laptop from the charger it turns off instantly? Would you recommended me buying a new charger? Is the charger the issue of my main problem or for problems in the future? Many thanks, Steven111 |

Re: Dell Inspirion 1545 Problem
As far as your problem with the errors, sounds to me like some things that I've seen where the laptop either runs out of juice halfway through the updating process or something similar. These things are really hard to come back from without wiping the computer but sometimes if you have your original OS disk you can repair the OS using the disk without data loss.
if you are unplugging the laptop from the wall and it is turning off instantly I'm thinking the battery is a culprit. might want to make sure that the battery is secure. other than that it could be a lot of things involving the switch over to battery power when it is unplugged. Beyond that I'm not really sure. I stay away from Dells in general because of too many bad experiences with them. I hope someone else can chime in as well.

Re: Dell Inspirion 1545 Problem
Many possibilities.
What you are experiencing is a failure to boot. This can happen because of corrupted HDD data or because of fried memory. Does your laptop allow you to change the ICH configuration from IDE to AHCI or vice-versa? Can you test the memory with the MSDOS version of memtest (you can download an ISO imagefile and burn it to a disk from their site)? Can you test the HDD for bad sectors (by taking it out of the laptop and putting it in a normal desktop, the SATA connectors on it are the same)? You managed to fry the battery in your laptop too. Does the new charger supply the exact voltage and amperage as the old fried Dell one?
