hp compaq 8510p

hey guys my laptop hooked up to my HD monitor will randomly stop sending signal for a second and then recover. any idea what maybe causing this?

My bet would be the the cables they might be loose or the GPU itself not being able to handle the loads.

well I happened to look around here on the windows 7 section and saw someone was having this problem and someone suggested a new driver and that seems to have cleared it up alot but not completely.
I also suspect the GPU might not be able to keep up but I can't really do anything about that besides overclocking and idk anything about that really
