I'm New - and I broke it !

Hi All,

I'm new to these parts. So hi to you all

I am looking to find a solution to my problem. I currently have an Acer 8930G which is about 18 months ond, and the Nvidia Graphics card has died, which apparently is not uncommon on these machines.

I have been told you cannot buy a new graphics card for these machines, which is hard to believe, but have not managed to find anything from searching the web !!

Can anyone Jim'll fix it for me so I can fix my machine (and also so if other google the problem hopefully they will find the this post

In theory you can put in a MXM-III graphics card to replace the broken one. (The 8930G has a seperate card for the graphics) but to ensure it fits you would really need to track down the same model as your existing GFX card.

the only thing you can do is try to track down a pulled GPU for your model of laptop from ebay or somewhere that can get you the part you need.

Thank you for the heads up.

Seems really strange that Acer do not sell replacements, are there no other companies, or even Nvidia themselves ? The card is separate, so must be available somewhere ?

It's not something they tend to do, I would have thought Acer would have repaired it for you at a price.

Look at it this way, the machine is dead without so open it up take the graphics card out, get the part number and then try and track down the replacement ebay is the best bet. It's no small task taking a laptop apart and getting back together tho.

In fact before you go down that route, are you certain the graphics card has died if so how? and are you certain it's not the screen/inverter?

I found Acer can supply a new one.

A 1gb grafix card for £274.

Available from 0871 760 1007 who are the acer repair centre.
