Dell Mini 9 & SSD Issue

Trying to repair a friend's Mini 9. It appears the SSD died so I purchased a Super Talent FEM32GFDL to replace the Stec 16. I'm using an external DVDRW drive to load. Here is my issue:

1. When I try to use the Dell recovery disk it only sees the on-board cache of my DVDRW (4MB) as a drive.

2. I tried partitioning w/ my Win7 disk, which sees the drive as 28.7GB

Disk 0 Unallocated Space
Total Size 28.7GB
Free Space 28.7GB

I cannot create a new partition. I click apply and it appears not to do anything. I try clicking "Next", and receive this error message:

Windows is unable to install to the selected location. Error: 0x80300024.

The bios does see the disk w/ the correct size.

Does anyone have any suggestions? The bios version is A0. I appreciate any assistance.

Re: Dell Mini 9 & SSD Issue

is there another hdd connected in the machine? if so have you tried with it unplugged?

some chatter of that error here, long with a tech net link on the second page. I didn't check outt he tech net a lot but most of the talk seems to be dual booting and a 2nd hdd in the machine.

no input on the external DVD rom showing up as 4MB, odd one. on another note, have you considered installing with a flash drive? ended up with a few 4gb drives for xmas and using one for installations is nice. Easy enough to make a new folder on it and load up some essential drivers n progs for post install.

There is no other HD installed, just the one. I haven't tried installing w/ USB drive yet. What I find odd is when I try to use Win7 to partition it has no issue w/ the external DVDRW. It almost makes me believe it's either an issue w/ the SSD or worse yet an issue w/ the motherboard. I wish the drive had an USB connection on it so I could verify. I was thinking of driving a special partitioning software just haven't had the time to look into it.

Thanks for your reply.

Figured this one out! It was the battery, removed it then was able to partition the drive. Mini is now back up and running fine. The battery is going in the trash where it belongs.
