Alienware m11x

Was going to buy an alienware m11x from someone on gumtree and they said that the processor is a Intel® Pentium® Processor SU4100, which I hav'nt seen in alienware laptops before...

Just wondering if its a good processor before I buy it?

Re: Alienware m11x

Its an ok processor. Of the 2 that were available on the original M11x, that was the lower spec option. It wont be a video encoding powerhouse but it shouldnt cause any issues.

What do you plan to do with the machine? Gaming, surfing, mail etc?

Re: Alienware m11x

I'm planning to use it for gaming, some video editing / web design and just general surfing.

(I'll smack it onto the TV when doing design etc)

Re: Alienware m11x

If you can find an R2 M11x or maybe even the original with higher spec CPU it might be better for you then... unless the one you are looking at is really cheap.

Re: Alienware m11x

Well, the one i'm after is selling for £475, rather than the £729 minimum from dell for the R2. And the higher spec processor is £650 on ebay ( cheapest i've found)

Re: Alienware m11x

Sounds like a good deal then... the money you would save is pretty great there.

Re: Alienware m11x

I'm hoping so, thanks for the reassurance, was starting to fret about it!

So you think it'll still be fine running games etc then? smoothly?

Running a 3gb ram, intel centrino laptop at the moment and it's not too bad with games just really bad graphics card. Thinking anything better than this processor'l be nice considering i've hand no issues with this one!

Re: Alienware m11x

Yeah, every game will be different. Its just about finding the right settings for the screen res on each title. You will notice a big difference though and its a steal at that price... which is only really £50 different to these generic Toshibas, Acers etc which have a quarter of the battery life and a bad gaming experience.

Re: Alienware m11x

It's probably worth warning that it won't have the gaming abilities of a full size gaming laptop or a low end gaming desktop. It'll be able to play most titles, but don't expect full eye candy in newer games.

I just looked on ebay and there's one with hardly any bids (v.low starting bid, which will increase the amount of bidders) with 2 days left. It might be worth you watching that - Core 2 Duo processor.
