M11x Drivers..
I got the laptop that I was after, and am so happy I did!!!
(M11x r1) The only issue is that the previous owner has wiped it and so some drivers are missing? Ive been to the dell website and downloaded most / all of the drivers available but I can't use wireless internet? The laptop says that it has: Wireless : Dell Wireless 1520 (802.11n) Half Mini Card 1 S Wireless : South Africa Dell Bluetooth 365 Card 1 S I thought the first one was for wireless internet? Am I mistaken? |

Re: M11x Drivers..
Yes, the N card is wireless internet but you also have a bluetooth card in there too (or might)
If you take the base off then look at the top centre you can see which wireless card you have. http://www.hardwareheaven.com/review...re_m11x/11.jpg (green PCB beside the blue memory, top and centre) |

Re: M11x Drivers..
So any reason why I can't display any wireless networks then? The only way I can connect to the internet is by Ethernet cable at the moment!

Re: M11x Drivers..
Have you checked it is showing as active in the device manager? And that the wireless switch is on ? And that it isnt disabled in the bios?
Also, did you open it to make sure the model is correct? |

Re: M11x Drivers..
Under network in the device manager the only device is the pci-e ethernet connection, i'll check bios now
also there is no physical wireless switch on the laptop itself |

Re: M11x Drivers..
Ok so i've opened up the back and the device is as you showed.
The device says "WLAN" then MAC:c417FE9446b4 42019959-03 dw1520 cn-0kvcx1-13740-015-070n-a00 it doesn't really say a name like I was expecting so not sure what those number mean, just thought i should include them in case anyone knew. So yea, it should have wireless then? if its WLAN? I used a software called everest and it doesnt show the wireless device =/ didn't touch the bios because I dont know what im doing so don't want to mess anything up! |

Re: M11x Drivers..
Pressing Fn+F3 should turn your wireless device on/off in Windows, if its also enabled in the BIOS.

Re: M11x Drivers..
Still having an issue =/ I've tried the FN +F3 and nothing (The light was already lit before hand)
When I try to download drivers from the dell website it just says there are no files to download |

Re: M11x Drivers..
OK, open it up (just a few screws on the base and then it lifts off) Once you have the model number from the wireless card sticker I can get you the driver, if not myself, then direct from Dell.

"WLAN" then MAC:c417FE9446b4 42019959-03 dw1520 cn-0kvcx1-13740-015-070n-a00 Assuming the MAC.... is the model number? Thanks for the help so far! |

Re: M11x Drivers..
The MAC identifies the NIC inside a network.
See if the ones here work: Latest Broadcom 943xx Driver - LaptopVideo2Go Forums |

Re: M11x Drivers..
The drivers still continue to say nothing to download =/
Not sure how to navigate the bios, maybe you can help? When I enter the boot menu I get 6 options (number 1-6 but 3 is missing?) 1. Hard Drive 2. CD/DVD/BD 4. Network (Loads for a bit then shows ethernet but not wireless) 5. Removal devices 6. Diagnostics |

Run the installer that comes with the ones that were linked.

Re: M11x Drivers..
Might also be worth checking that the wireless card is in its slot properly.
Also, this is what the BIOS screen with Wireless enable/disable looked like for me: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/review...re_m11x/26.jpg |

Re: M11x Drivers..
OK, so when you download the file I linked (manually) from Dell. Then run it, what happens?

Re: M11x Drivers..
I have no idea what has been happening...
Before when I ran the drivers from you and from dell it would come up with this: http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/75/91796216.png This time I was able to download the driver for the wireless card, not sure why I couldn't previously. I've installed and unzipped the driver, but still no wireless... Do i now need to check the bios again or something? |

Re: M11x Drivers..
OK, when i downloaded the file the following happened:
1) Ran the file 2) Chose the unzip location 3) Unzipped 4) Launched the installer 5) Installed the driver Did you see all of those steps complete? If so, when you go into device manager does it still show no wireless under network and no "unknown/wlan devices" elsewhere? |

Re: M11x Drivers..
So far, to be honest it seems a little slower than my dell inspiron which has a Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T6400, 3gb ram.
But i'm guessing that is because it's 1.3ghz not 2ghz, and only have 2gb ram (will upgrade to 4gb very very soon) Now that it's sorted i'm installing CSS, and might have to get dead space2 =] Is it safe to overclock the system? Have you done it to yours? |
