Best Laptop for gaming?
Heyllo..I'm new here. Just looking for opinions on the best laptops for gaming. I'm more into the "adventure" type games..such as Myst and Riven.
I'm in the USA. I was looking to spend around $2000 but don't be afraid to go well below that or above that for what I need. I want something that won't be out of date in a few years. I may end up playing other types of games in the future. I would like a decent sized monitor/display. The best or nearly the best picture quality possible. I guess "top of the line" for what I'm really looking to use it for(adventure gaming) ...but something that can be used for other games if I get into them(the racing games..sims...shoot 'em to death...etc) ..and again, something that won't be constipated a few years from now. I was looking at the Alienware M17x and the Toshiba Qosmio so far. I'm assuming the M17x is a bit better...? Any suggestions on what to get in the M17x, for example..to satisfy my criteria mentioned above? Thanks

Re: Best Laptop for gaming?
First off, and sorry if it's something you've already considered, but are you sure you want a gaming laptop?
For that budget, you could buy a decent non-gaming laptop, and have change for a desktop that'd be more graphically powerful than a $2000 dollar laptop and cheaper to upgrade in the future too.

Re: Best Laptop for gaming?
Im not into Laptops but what i find quite odd... Its your Budget for a gaming Laptop of $2000..For Future Proofing etc....
But the two games you have mentioned is so old just about any Laptop should play it without problems.. Myst: The release date is around 1993 Riven: The Release date is around 1997 I could by a modern day Basic Laptop for £300 (UK) which should handle both of those games without an issue.. If you are going to spend $2000 just to play these two games then you are going to waste your money.. |

Re: Best Laptop for gaming?
Thanks for the replies. The reason for the laptop is just to be able to take it anywhere and play games or do whatever on it. Instead of being stuck in one room sitting by a desk all the time. Can even lay down in bed and play..etc.
The games I mentioned were just examples..I realize they're old. I haven't gotten myself up to date yet on the latest games these days. I have more time these days to play around..so I'm getting back into it. |

Re: Best Laptop for gaming?
there is no such thing as a laptop that is not gonna be out of date in a few years.
Not for around 2000 dollars anyway. You can get something that will manage though... like the one I have. I bought it a year ago, and it is already showing its age (wish I could upgrade the videocard) but it manages to play everything on medium.. Note that the screen is 1920x1080 so it does require quite a lot of power. For example, I can't play Darksiders on full resolution but have to tone it down to 1280x800

Re: Best Laptop for gaming?
17" gaming "laptops" tend to be called Desktop Replacements because they are not suitable for gaming out and about. Both for battery life and bulk. Worth keeping in mind when you are shopping.

Re: Best Laptop for gaming?
A lot of laptops won't like being used "in bed" either... they need to be on a desk or other flat, firm surface to remain cool.

Re: Best Laptop for gaming?
So...any suggestions?
If you read what I said about the $2000..I stated that I'd be willing to pay quite a bit more if I have to. Battery life..if I'm away from a plug for any length of time an extra battery(or 2) may be worth it. Not worried about it being bulky...too small would be a problem for me though ;-) Using it in bed...you can still put it on a flat surface(board of any kind of material..etc) or if sitting up- one of those in-bed tables if you didn't want to put it on your lap. Just an example: Laptop Stand By LapDawg - A Revolutionary, Ergonomic Laptop Holder |

Re: Best Laptop for gaming?
Check the Sager NP8170, Asus g73sw and Alienware M17x R3, if you want a big one.

Re: Best Laptop for gaming?
Thanks..will look into those. I was just at Alienware's website..the M17x R3 is no longer available. Chatted with someone there and she said it may be due to parts that need to come in or be updated. Hmmmm.....

Re: Best Laptop for gaming?
Firstly, holy thread necro batman. Secondly, you do realise that the vast majority of Toshiba laptops don't even have discrete graphics? You can't just recommend a whole brand like that...

Re: Best Laptop for gaming?
So your budget is $2000 and want to buy a laptop!!!!!!!!!!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ARE YOU CRAZY!!!!!!!!! You can get an ass-kicking gaming desktop at that price with nvidia 3d. A huge big moniter and good keyboard and mouse for comfortability. You can also get a good 7.1 speakers too! You want to carry your gaming laptop as you say it above then tell me that will you play your games at a smaal screen and with bad sound quality huh! In my opinion buy a decent gaming desktop and then buy a good laptop if you want to carry it..............laptops are good but not for gaming!!!!! Last edited by Ishank; Apr 28, 2011 at 04:33 PM. |
