best laptop option?
My laptop (specs on the left) got stolen and I need a replacement.
Needs to be very well in AutoCAD, Photoshop, 3DSMax etc.. desing programmes. Playing the ocasional game and watching movies will be done as well.. I was looking at the Dell XPS 17 with Processor2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7-2720QM processor 2.20 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.30 GHz Memory 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM(2x4GB) Keyboard Dell™Backlit Keyboard with Touchpad (English) Video Card 3GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M With Optimus Hard Drive 1.5TB 7200RPM Hard Drive(750GB X2) Operating System Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit (English) Optical Drive Tray load Fixed Blu-ray BD-ROM / DVD + /-RW Combo Drive HD display 17.3"(43.94cm) FHD WLED AG (1920x1080) I was thinking of inquiring for different options for the videocard, but other than that.. what would you think about this? Or do you have any other recommendations?

Re: best laptop option?
unfortunately i see the name dell and think garbage... sorry..
but even a lower end model of another brand like asus.... generally will run circles around it... and i think asus is cheaper (well at least for me) when dealing with the higher powered stuff like that

high end dell is good, laptop that I had was the XPS 16. great laptop.
Just went to the asus site and while their specs are great, laptop looks like shit, can't find the price or where to buy it.. :/

o.O there are a bunch of different style asus laptops.... not once have i been told or mentioned in passing that they looked like shit..... lol Go to newegg or something..... typical big box retail stores don't sell them because they don't make any money off them usually or can't... (low failure rate, + the free 2 year global warranty with first year accidental coverage with free shipping both directions provided your in a FEDEX area) I've sold probably about 75+ Asus Laptops in the last 2 and a half years since i started selling them.. 10"/12"/15/16/17's...... all happy customers. And only have had one of those laptops fail... within the first warranty year, hardrive packed it in.....

Re: best laptop option?
just don't like the look of the high end asus that they made look 'like a stealth fighter plane'.. Newegg doesn't stock the model I'm looking for unfortunately.
Personally, I like the customization options that dell provides.. Asus site is just confusing

Re: best laptop option?
Well I can only recommend what I have.. Asus N53SV
Specs: CPU: Intel Core™ i7 2630QM 2.0GHz (2.9GHz Turbo) RAM: 6GB DDR3 GFX: GeForce GT 540M 1GB DDR3 HDD: 500GB 7200rpm Hybrid HDD (with 4GB SSD) I believe there is 17" version called N73SV or N73SW... Other than that, I know as much as you... from reading reviews... Which is: Build quality is best with Lenovo Thinkpad T series. Sony Vaio is good quality also (F series I think). Thats about all I can tell you. |
