Toshiba Satellite Intel Graphics HELP

I have come across an oldish Toshiba Satellite laptop & stuck Windows XP Pro, SP2 (32-bit) on it.
It's just a cheapo, 256mb ram, 1.5GHz Celeron M with Intel Graphics (oh lord) one little problem...
I once used an application on it (with the original Toshiba CD's install of XP) wherein I could adjust
the amount of shared memory on the video from 1 to 64MB, on my non-Toshiba install, I
don't have anything like that...so any ideas on how to go about adjusting that without resorting
to the original disc? That would mean getting XP Home & all the pre-packaged crap.
Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

Re: Toshiba Satellite Intel Graphics HELP

sorry didn't see this previously...

Your best bet is to visit Toshiba's Support website and track down the model you have.

from there you'll likely find the suggested Intel Graphics driver that Toshiba provides.... Not keep in mind i'm only suggesting the Toshiba driver that they provide because it's likely the only way that i'm aware of to get that feature back. Toshiba likely made "modifications" or added that shared memory option into their drivers and intels Referrence driver or one that you get through windows update doesn't provide it.

I completely comprehend the reason you want to adjust this because running 256mb of ram nowadays, well, the more you can free up.. even if it's just a little.. but better.

Re: Toshiba Satellite Intel Graphics HELP

It's no problem, and yeah, I suppose that will have to be what I check, I'll get on that, then.
Hopefully their driver won't cause any annoyances compared to the non-Toshiba one. Thanks.

And yes, even on Windows XP, 256 doesn't leave much room to run, I could barely run Firefox
(or Chrome) at the same time as Skype (text-only chats) without having it nearly max it out.
Luckily, I only plan to use this ol' Lappy as a mess-around machine, the battery's not in great
shape, only lasts about an hour & a half (mind you, that's with full brightness, full speed, ect...)

All in all, it's not exactly one I'd just throw away, cause it does function. Maybe I'll give it to a
friend or something who's suffering with a shared PC in their home. Anyway thanks, Judas.
EDIT:
Found the driver page for it (A55-1063) in case anybody needs it, one of these Display files'll
probably be what I'm looking for. I'll make a final post once I've got the bugger set up right.
EDIT2:
None of the damned video/display-related applications seem to be what I need. Frustrating :/
I'll be trying to finish this, as mentioned...a final update when it's ready.

Fraid not, it's the crappiest BIOS I ever saw. You got nothing available to you but the barebones.

Re: Toshiba Satellite Intel Graphics HELP

thats a shame...

have you checked your system using "dxdiag" in the command prompt?

if anything, it may tell you how much memory is allocated to the IGP, perhaps you dont even need any additional software.

Hmm, that's a good idea. I'll check that. Thanks Kris.
"checks"
Well damn...all it tells me is that it's using 64mb.
At least now I know for sure that I need to adjust it, lol.

Re: Toshiba Satellite Intel Graphics HELP

haha, so getting a stick of DDR is out of the question?

it sure looks like you need it in general.

Well I would, but I mean...I got this free, and I'm too broke to splurge on a laptop with an only-decent battery that I'm not even going to use. XD
I'll just fork it over to a friend who has to share a family PC. They won't mind.

Yeah, running idle XP eats about 85-90mb ram. So if they're just doing typical stuff and aren't used to some gaming rig (like I foolishly let myself become addicted to) then they'll be fine. XD
