Re: laptop wont burn

I'm going to say that it may be the fact that you are using the 64 bit version of XP, and that it's a driver problem.

Your best bet would be to try Win 7 x64 on that lappy.

IF for some really, really good reason you need XP, then try the 32 bit version.

Re: laptop wont burn

Typically i use some form of flammable or explosive fluids if i need my laptop to burn, gas/alcohol is much to quick, but diesel can take some time, oils produce far to much smoke... a good chunk of coal is to ...bricky.....

joking aside... what burning software are you using? Windows XP x64 should support CD burning capabilities out of the box....

What does the device manager say.

Also does the cd drive get recognized as a CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive or does it show up as a CD-RW or DVD-RW? (you can check that also by going into my computer or in the device manager)

Re: laptop wont burn

when i look in the device manager the slimtype dvd a ds8a1p is there but i click on it.. and i noticed that the location is 0 (0) but also in the device status is says it is working properly.... odd and i know xp 64 bit isnt the best but i dont feel like spending 200 bucks on windows 7.. and its xilisoft dvd creator. i have it on my other laptop and works fine.. also i had to put a new harddrive in this and new os and drivers.. i can put disk in and movies and it works.. just does not burn... thats not the only thing i notices that is wrong with my laptop sence the ew harddrive.. my mouse randomly clicks sometimes it so much i cant do anything other times it only does it ever 2 or 3 minutes.. but the burning thing is my main goal right now lol.

Re: laptop wont burn

so the drive is only being recognizd as a dvd/cd drive which makes it obvious that is the main reason...

I know of the drive that comes with the 7720 acer Aspire series.. which i know for a fact is dvd-rw.. but the 7720 travel mate i do think comes with both a dvdrom OR dvdrw drive.....

some people are reporting that they cleaned the drive and got back support.. but this doesn't make sense.. others are saying the drive just quit working with no clear solution...

I'll keep looking in my spare time.. but short of seeing it myself... i'm not sure what to suggest.

If it's a clean install you shouldn't have the lower/upper registry issues...
maybe

look up the upper/lower registry filter issues .. micrsoft has a walkthrough on it..

i have to run... if i get back i'll post it.

Those registry error checkers are usually full of shit and will pull up anything out of there ass for shits and giggles just to make you feel better about your purchase....

frankly i've found registry cleaneres to screw things up faster than a virus.... but that's my opinion...

check this

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

Re: laptop wont burn

did you follow through on the manual attempt?

I'm at a bit of a loss.. it just sounds like the device itself stopped working properly.... (the slimdrive)...

they sometimes just do that.. one minute working.. the next not....

Re: laptop wont burn

lol.. advertising much?

back on topic. CCleaner is a great little program to clean up registry issues or just general pc software maintenance.
I am normally not a big fan of the 'online scan' because most of the time they are full of shit, like judas said. But this is a standalone program, downloadable for free.
