New ASUS laptop doesn't complete windows 7 installtion
Dear Experts
Client of mine has bought his Laptop ASUS U31S yesterday and he asked me to install windows 7 ultimate (origin was windows 7 home edition) beside other operating system Linux and Solaris. I divided the 500 GB hard disk but didn't touch the hidden partition that has recovery. I formatted the C partition that had windows 7 home edition and install a fresh copy of windows 7 ultimate,,,,,the process was smooth , first restart asking about username and computer name , password,,,etc ,,,,but with the second restart, PC kept rebooting without completing the windows installation. Although I have used the same widnows 7 CD for his other new laptop and the installation went smooth without any problem What could be the cause of this issue ? Regards |

Does this continuous rebooting happen before or after the drivers are installed? Specifically, before or after the camera driver? The reason I ask is that I had an issue one time with one of their laptops where the wrong driver for the camera would get installed during installation, and it would continuously reboot, or rather BSOD and reboot automatically.

Hi Tipstaff
I didn't reach that far for the driver installation, therefore I would say this is happening before drivers installation Regards |

Re: New ASUS laptop doesn't complete windows 7 installtion
So the rebooting is prior to reaching the desktop itself? Any chance of getting into Safe Mode, or is it not allowing for that option?
How much RAM is installed in the system? Is it maxed out physically, whereby both slots are being used? If so a very common thing to try would be to removing one stick of RAM. BTW, one thing you might want to try is to re-install the original OS from the recovery, and do an Anytime Upgrade. If I remember correctly you can use a retail key to do this upgrade without even needing the disc (takes something like 10-15min). This would also leave everything intact installation/file wise. You could also try doing an upgrade from within the OS using the retail disc, but the catch is that you have to use the same bit version of the disc (32/64) as the OS that is installed. Lastly, if you have the same problem with installing the recovery OS I would try installing another hard drive, install the OS onto that hard drive (either the retail or via the recovery discs), then clone the drive to the original.. that is IF it installs on the other hard drive. |

Re: New ASUS laptop doesn't complete windows 7 installtion
Hi TipStaff
As you know the laptop two days old because he bought it brand new, therefore I don't need to change and modify any hardware , if it faulty then he replace it. Just one thing I forget to mention it does have external DVD drive, could that cause this problem ? |

Was that external drive used on the other laptop you used the disc on? Along with trying my earlier suggestion of doing an Anytime Upgrade via the original OS you could also try making a bootable/installable USB drive version of the OS. On THIS website you can get Microsofts own tool that allows you to transfer the install files onto a bootable USB pen drive. Their idea is that you can download the ISO file from them if purchased the license from them directly, but it should work if you make a copy of the retail disc using something like ImgBurn to make an ISO file of the disc, and then use their tool to make the bootable USB drive. At that point you can use it to install Windows 7 on the clients laptop completely bypassing the need for the external optical drive. |
