Questions about HP iPAQ

Hey guys, I was able to grab an HP iPAQ 4155 for an excellent price and I have a few questions if anyone can help me out. I would like to use the bluetooth lan capability to sync with my PC using the Logitech MX900 mouse/hub. Would this work to be able to check email and do basic web surfing? Also where can I find some good and cheap pocket pc games/appz? Any other high tech ideas of what I can use it for would also be appreciated

well I dont now how the logitech bluetooth setup works but the MS one doesnt work very well with anything else barring the keyboard and mouse they supply. as for the other questions hopefully someone can help.

As far as I know, the logitech has the same problems as the MS one. One of the inherant problems with bluetooth is the lack of bandwidth. The more devices you have, the poorer the performance.

The Keyboard and mouse will be taking up most of the bandwidth already and then if you try to run a network connection through it, you run into problems.

Bluetooth LAN is really only any good with one device connected to a dedicated bluetooth hub

Thanks for the advice guys, I was about to go waste my money on a MX900-something I didn't really want to do since I'm already runnin the MX700. But if anyone knows if I can slap a WiFi router/switch onto my hardwired router, it'd greatly appreciate it. I really like this router and another 8 port would cost me way too much just so I can run a pocket pc.

Just in case anyone has a similar question, I guess all I needed was a wireless access point. It seems I can plug one these suckers right into my current router. Damn expensive though that is for sure. I'll grab one tomorrow and let you know if it works out.

A mate of mine has an ethernet bluetooth hub connected to his network at home. It works but the range isn't up to a lot. Much better going for wifi. I use it and can connect to my network halfway down the street outside my home.

Cool, thanks for the info bud. Good thing you told me this as I can get one cheaper than an MX900/hub and it will run better. I'm also reading that WiFi kills the battery slightly faster but its a price to pay for top performance

Well, I picked up a netgear access point and everything works great. Didnt even have to set anything up; the ipaq picked up the signal on its own. Surfing the web while getting some sun is really a new experiense lol. Now if only DH was pocket pc optimized

You're right about wifi and battery life. I can flatten the battery in my 5550 in just over an hour with the wifi on.

Same here. Depending on distance I can only get a max of 2 hours. Havent hit the backup battery yet but I dont think it would much time since its a regular NiMH type.

you cant really get any use from the backup battery anyway - its only used when the ipaq is in standby to stop your data getting lost.
