anyone know about upgrading a laptops proc?
Hey I had this idea to upgrade the proc on my laptop. I knew some people that CLAIMED they had upgraded their procs on their laptops but I wasnt sure.
do you guys know if its possible? I was thinking of taking out the 500mhz chip on my IBM and sticking in a 700mhz or even an 800 possibly. just wondering if you guys knew anything about it.

in what way? not possible because the chip is soldered down? (I actually think its not)
or not possible for some other reason.

i know it's possible for dells, i've seen many claims of success on their forums. but only certain chips work for certain laptop models. for example my best possible upgrade is from PIII 1GHz to 1.3GHz, not worth it imo.
check the forums for your machine for the possibilities and good luck

hmm. Well for everyone who had the 650mhz speedstep procs it seems that all is well. for *SOME* of the people with the 500mhz procs(thats me! YAY! not) it worked great. 800mhz seems the norm for the upgrade. thats a shame.
In any case point being...it sounds like it might have been a combo of bios and OS updates that makes the difference. Now I just need a mucho cheak pentium 3 800mhz to test this out on. :-\
