p4 hyperthreading issues

I have a laptop with a 3.0ghz HT P4, but the only way I can hit 100% processor utilization is with more than 1 program running. Even doom3 will only take up 50% of the processor. Is there a way to fix this or should I take the time to reinstall windows without hyperthreading?
thanks

Could you please clarify the problem? You're complaining because single programs will not hit 100% CPU usage? If you want something to use more CPU, why not raise it's priority? In Task Manager, right click the task and raise it's priority. I don't think it's a problem and you should not need to raise priorities for most day to day applications, but you can try anyways.

Nope, thats your cpu working the way it should.

One program can only utilise one (virtual) processor at a time unless it is specifically coded to take advantage of HT cpu's.

So if you run 2 progs, the first will be run on the first processor and the 2nd will run on the 2nd processor.

Indeed, you've got a good thing going - if it ain't broke, don't fix it, unless you want to break it knowing you can fix it in advance...
