Processors for laptops
I am considering to buy a new laptop and want to know if a Intel Centrino Processor is better that a regular P4 processor. I will be using the laptop for power/gaming, not mobility. thanks

Hmm.. If mobility is not a concern then, the regular P4 is a better choice if you get the higher end P4 ones (3 GHz+)

I personally perfer the Athlon 64 in my laptops
they run like champs and change clockspeeds according to your needs so battery life is great(Even on a huge monitor). I play UT2k4 on my bros laptop for about 3 hours(and this is on a POS compaq)

Intel recently released a new Pentium M Dothan that is clocked @ 2.10 GHz ![]() as for the 2 Ghz model...it has been available for at least 4 months now.... more info can be found on intel's Pentium M Processor sheet located here: http://www.intel.com/products/proces...o.htm#pentiumm & for the people who don't want to go look: @ gmanater: as far as i am concerned you're better of with a Pentium M in the longrun

yeah I know that Intel has been working with this stuff longer...
the 64 gets VERY hot so that is one problem(keep your hands away from the vents) but even so, my bro's processor performs really well. VERY nice memory bandwidth and pretty good processing power. the importance to me is the battery life. His laptop gets a good 3 hours on an a64 and a HUGE widescreen. I'd say thats pretty good.

I've heard that the Intel Pentium M processors are terrible performers (on proccessor power). Is this true? I have also considered a AMD 64 processor , but I really dont care witch one I get as long as it is fast (above 2800+ or 2.8 GHz). with a good FSB.

well it depends...pentium M processors arent "Bad performers" really. They do their job VERY well. They take little amouts of power and they give decent speeds.
if you want higher performers you'll need to get a non-mobile proc.
