Leaving a laptop on...

I was wonderin, is it harmful to a laptop (in particular the hard disk) if one leaves it on for several days continuously while downloadin stuff and with programmes like MSN Messenger on? Does this habit wear it out (once again I'm more concerned bout the hard drive)? I do that to my laptop with the hibernating and turn off hard disk options disabled.

I would say as long as it doen't get too hot, you should be fine. I do that to my laptop and I have never had a problem.

You might want to think about some additional cooling for before you do that. I'm writing this on my old Compaq Presario Palomino labtop which as been fine for being left on for weeks.

Is it sitting straight flat on the desk? cause i know how laptops can get very hot on the bottom when they are flat on the desk - the desk starts to act as another heat source....

maybe elevate it? make so air can freely move all around it...

put a fan blowing on it at night...?
