Region Region Region

Hi, I want to buy the Robotech (yeah baby!) series on DVD but they only come in region 1, while my laptop presario 2816ea has a dvd of region 2. All my DVDs are in region 2 so it wouldn't be a great choice to change only 5? times the thingy. Can anyone suggest anything? Buying another DVD drive or standalone dvd player is out of the question for a variety of reasons. Help?

What you can do is flash it with a firmware that has rpc 1 than you can play all region codes. look here if there is any firmware that can do it.

Thanks mate!

I did visit the site and the only firmware upgrade for my combo drive GCC-4240N are under a different manufacturer! I am afraid that something might go wrong and not be able to watch any movie. Yes, I am completely ignorant in terms of region codes and flashing. I guess the safest way would be to get one of those programs that circumvent the protection.

BTW, I see you are the creator of driver cleaner, great job! I used it a couple of times and it is hands down of the best utilities out there.

IIRC Videolan Client can play DVDs regardless of Region Code. You may want to take a look:

Oh man this is funny. I actualy have and use that player for a few months now, cause it is so damn good! I had no idea it supported that feature.

if i want to make my laptop drive read/write faster can i flash it with firmware for a newer device? kind of like softmodding?
