Processor Upgradeability in the 600m

Just a question regarding the upgradability of the processor in my dad's laptop.

Recently, he asked me if I could upgrade his processor(It being a 1.6ghz Pentium M) I naturally said, "I have no idea." Because, well, I don't actually. I don't really know how well a Dell Laptop can upgrade! He has the Dell Inspiron 600M, and he was looking at the 2.0ghz processor for a non-essential upgrade... but how to do it kind of phased me. :P (I'm only "good" with PC upgrades. )

Anyway.

The real question out of all that, is... Can an Inspiron 600M upgrade to 2.0ghz? (Pentium M)

Actually, I should look into the specs of the motherboard in this thing...and the chipset... I think it uses the 855M or something.

Thanks!

well the problem is that you'd have to get a hold of a Pentium M processor and those are few and farbetween. It is near impossible to get a hold of a Pentium M.

besides that, its difficult to upgrade a laptop. anyway the best way to figure this out is to check the Dell forums. They are EXTREMELY useful when it comes to crazy upgrades.

I would say yes, but two problems.

Laptops are pain to take apart, so I hope your friend is brave.

These are very expensive, even here in the states. I can't imagine what the price would be up there. Newegg has them though.

I did some searching around for a PentiumM 2.0 and the lowest I saw on pricewatch was $773.
At a place called maczone I saw it at $535.99. So yeah they are not cheap. Best of luck to ya.
