ram upgrade

Hi ppl
i have a laptop w/512 MB (2 DIMM) memory and i d like to upgrade it. is it safe to lose the one 256MB piece and put a 512MB piece on one dimm and leave the 256MB on the other or should both dimms have the same size of RAM?
thx

System Specs

In most cases that would work fine, but to be really sure you need to check if there is any definite specs from Compaq on this. Especially so because it's a Compaq. They've had plenty of funny ideas in the past.

You should be fine. that'll take you to 768 RAM. Just so logn as it's not like dual-channeled or something, heh.

Here's Compaq's directions for actually doing it, though I'm sure you know what to do already, lol.

At the bottom of the page, they have a 'how to buy' link that should give you more information about the ram you can use with your system -- unfortunately, I don't have your product/serial #, so I can't go through, heh.
