Radeon 9600 Beef Up?
I have a 9600 in my laptop and I am using Patje's 9600 drivers. Is there any way I can get more performance out of this 128mb card? Any suggestions at all would be great.

Use radlinker to overclock it. Note, it will shorten your battery life before recharge and be very careful, go in increments of 5MHz and test things with a 3d application such as 3dmark every time (for artefacts). You can also use ATI Tool, which can help "detect" maximum overclock.

Ok, but what about extra heat?
And...sorry I'm new at this, but what ATI tool? Basically, I would like to have the safest, most user-friendly way possible. But, I am concerned about heat...should I be? |

ATITool
Most user friendly is probably ATITool. Safe way? Well, being by your PC and watching it, seeing if anything goes wrong. If you are worried about heat - don't even try overclocking, since it's always increasing heat, and decreasing battery life as I mentioned above. Being careful is your best bet.

on laptops i wouldn't recommend OCing anything. Laptops are meant for long battery life not tweaking and performance.

I'll have to agree with CDsDontBurn on this one. However, you can overclock if your laptop is a desktop-set machine. I do suggest removing the battery from it (when it's turned off of course) and running it off the power only. Nothing damages the Li-Ion battery as the excessive heat does. You are always welcome to get yourself a notebook cooler too. There are plenty on the market. My Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo in my Inspiron 8600 overclocks quite well.

You can tweak a laptop and you might be able to overclock it with little heat problems, it depends on ur chasis. Mine has it that the graphics card has it's own seperate fan, and the manafacturer clocked it low, makin huge gains possible, I reccomend using ati tool and watch ur machine while it test. Oh and as for battery life shortage, my 88mhz OC on core and 24 on mem lost me 5 minutes leaving me 3 hours and 2 minutes still, Nice. (and no Powerplay was not on)
ATi tool can be found at http://forums.techpowerup.com/showth...4&page=5&pp=10 as for my Laptop it's meant for tweaking and overclocking.....

Well my battery is external anyway. So the Ati tool will find the max core and max mem. settings all on its own so I don't really have to do anything?
This does sound pretty safe and I have a 'lapcool' tray under my laptop. So any other concerns? |
