acer 800lci driver problem

i got an acer 800lci from customer, i want to upgrade the video card driver ( i believe the chipset is radeon 9000) every time i upgrade the driver (i download from ati.com) it will give me an error message that can't find the device. i try to uninstall the older driver, but windows xp pro don't accept the standard vga setting, does anyone know how to solve the problem?_? thank you

Start the ATI installer, but cancel it when the first ATI screen pops up after it extracts. Run DH's (Patje's) Mobility Modder HERE , and point it to the default temp folder that ATI creates (should be c:\ati\support). After it's modded the files it will ask you if you want to install them, hit yes, and everything should install fine. If that doesn't help you might want to try searching the forums as there are plenty of threads that deal with this in more detail.
