More laptop ram?

I like to play games occasionally such as half life 2 and Guild Wars.
I have a P4 3 ghz with a radeon 9000. It has 384 mb of ram and I was wondering would I see any difference in performance by adding another 256 mb in these games?

you would have a hard time with those game with the 9000, you would definatly see a diference because i believe the 9000igp is changable to 128mg, at least mine is...

better off saving up for a desktop to play gamez.

the radeon already has 128 mb, I play the games now and they are playable, just wondering if I will see any increase with 256 more megs.

System Specs

You should see a positive difference - not in raw FPS in the game, but in overall smoothness during gameplay, and in load times for levels. The drive will not have to be accessed so often for level data while playing - that's where the smoothness will get better by adding system memory.

Most new games run well in a machine with 512Mb or better.

Hehe wish I could do that, but laptops are stuck with their vid card. Anything that could improve overall smoothness would be nice though...until I build a real desktop in a few months.

Indeed, you have to stick with your 9000. I forgot while I was posting that you had a laptop and edited the part about the 9800 - would be nice if you could upgrade that though...

If you can, you might consider going with a 512Mb upgrade to your ram rather than just a 256Mb - if the price isn't too much more for your budget. It'll give you some headroom with the new games, and especially if you have to use the laptop for gaming for awhile.

it should definately help, i recently had a p4 2.4 with a 9000 64 kb and 764 mb of ram and had no prob playing either of those games (especially GW), so go for it, it should offer a decent improvement for you.
