Acer 3003 or Fujitsu Siemens A1640?
I have pretty much narrowed down my laptop choices. My budget is a lot tighter than I thought, and not all models I could read about on the internet are available where I live, so I narrowed it down to this two models:
* Acer Aspire 3003 WLMi * Fujitsu Siemens AMILO A1640 Both are AMD Sempron 3000+ & SiS 760, and both include very similar components. However, they include different Wireless cards (Acer vs Gemtek - both work under NdisWrapper only ), and probably some other components from different manafacturers. Both have 15.4" WXGA display.What I care about: 1. Display quality. Acer that I'm planning to get doesn't have CrystalBrite display, but only a standard one. 2. Linux support. Should be quite similar actually. I'm interested in hearing about which one would you pick of those two brands or those two models. Any kind of information (even general info about Acer or F-S laptops) is appreciated. BTW, Fujitsu Siemens offers 2 years warranty, while Acer offers 1 year. I haven't checked that specific store, but I think it will be the same as almost everywhere else.

fujitsu siemens;
- better display, longer warranty, MUCH better service support (at least where you do live ). Linux support on both of theses laptops could be tricky, it's doesn't matter wich one you choose... Also, i think F-S has better looks...

Yeah, I asked in the store and I'm waiting for the reply...
BTW, do you think that Intel Pentium M/Celeron M laptops are better supported under Linux? I ask because I also have an option to get F-S AMILO L1300, a Celeron M/Intel 855-based laptop, which is quite similar (15.4" Widescreen 1280x800, Wireless card that will work under NdisWrapper, Integrated Intel GFX card, 512MB ram), however it has 20GB less of disk space (40GB vs 60GB) and it's ~90$ cheaper. (Processor is also a bit slower, but I'm not worried at all about that.) Would it be a better option in your opinion?

DEFINITELY the Fujitsu... my current laptop is a Fujitsu... granted it's one of the higher end thin and light model... but i've seen some of the entry level ones and they still have the great build + screen quality.
I know a few people with Acers and the Fujitsus are much much nicer |

As for the sempron/celeron... definitely go sempron... a much better processor... if it was pentium m (or centrino) then that would be the best of the three

Yeah, and how about SiS chipsets for AMD? I'm not concerned about Sempron here, but about SiS760. I haven't heard much about it and it's compatibility with Linux, so that concerns me a little.

ok.... i don't have much experience with linux, so i'm afraid that I can't help you in that department.... perhaps it would be worth looking on SIS's site to see if they have any linux drivers for that chipset

ok.... so if it's integrated graphics on the SIS760 chipset... there are no linux drivers for it that I can find
