ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 - laptop freezes when booting on battery power

My Sager 5600 (similar to Alienware 51-M) with Radeon Mobility 9000 and Omegadrivers v. 2.6.25a freezes at the Windows XP screen when booting up on battery power.

Sager tells me it may be related to the graphics driver requiring too much power when booting.

The laptop boots and works fine on AC power, it also works fine on battery power after booting up on AC power.

Any suggestions as to a fix? I had to upgrade to this driver as the one on Sager's site is a few years old and didnt work well any longer for gaming (i.e. Everquest).
