Co-op Gaming help with my laptop

I picked up splinter cell choas theory and wanted to play the Co-op missions with a friend who will be using my desktop computer while I am using my laptop. My problem is I cant seem to get the game to communicate with the desktop and the laptop. I am currently using a WNR2004 uniden router. The manual said something about opening up some ports and I went into my settings with my router and wasnt excatly sure where these settings were located. Thanks in advance for anbody helping me.
