Simple (?) problem with laptop - icons screwy!

this is a simple problem i'm sure, i thought i posted this yesterday but i can't find it today so i'll try posting it again.

basically i turned on my notebook and all the icons were wrong, either black or like cutouts of other icons, so a folder has abit of the movie maker icon stuck on it in the wrong place. but it all worked fine it was weird. i reinstalled my graphics driver but it didn't do anything.

however, while trying to sort it out i seem to have made a double left click on my mouse 'search' a folder instead of opening it, so i have to right click it and choose open (and search is at the top in bold).

i'm sure its just a simple solution but i can't figure it out! any help?

spyware? grab microsoft's AntiSpyware beta, its imo the best and run a scan see if there's stuff to clean up. i don't think its a graphics problem if you redid the drivers. unless your hardware is screwey.

well its weird, i played tetris on mame32 just now and when i turned it off all the icons were back to normal!! so i rebooted expecting all the icons to be weird again, but they're fine now. so i don't know if they'll stay like that but its all good at the moment!

however, now i'm stuck with the left click doing search instead of open on folders!

i have adaware and spybot for spyware, funnily, i did adaware earlier today but obviously it didn't do anything. however its interesting later in the day it goes back to normal. hmm...
