Laptop Cooler
I need some help choosing a laptop cooler for a friend. I am thinking of getting either the Spire CF300-NEB (http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews/breeze/) or the Vantec Lapcool 2 (http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews/vanteclaptop/).
He has a hypersonic aviator NX6 that gets really HOT and sometimes causes his machine to die out on him. Here the dimensions of his machine: (H x W x D): 4cm x 35.5cm x 26cm (1.6in x 13.9in x 10.2in) Thanks |

I'd go with the Vantec one only if you can get it cheap. The reason is that Vantec has released the Lapcool 4, and the design of it is better (they are identical in every way except size to the Lapcool2). Take a look at Vantecs Cooling page HERE. Scroll down to the Notebook Cooler section. The Lapcool 4 comes in 2 versions: the LPC-420, and the LPC-430. Main feature is that they are both compact (foldable) to a more portable size when not used (infact, it's the same size as the Spire one). Both come with a 4 port USB 2.0 hub, and have an adjustable fan switch (best feature on this unit really) just like the Lapcool2. Where the 430 differs from the 420 is that it also includes a memory card reader.
Price wise? Since the Lapcool 2s are essentially phased out the Lapcool 4s run for the same price. So, if you can find a Lapcool2 cheap, go for it. If not, I would put my money on the Lapcool4. |

Thanks for your replies.
If someone wants to argue what TipStaff said and make the case for the Spire please go ahead as I would like to get all the pros and cons. Or if you know some other product that would be good too and let me know of your experience with it. Last edited by frigi; Aug 5, 2005 at 12:18 PM. |

i use an antec cooling pad that i got off of amazon for £20, it works fine, if i use something like DOSBox which is really CPU intensive then it still crashes, or if the room in general is really warm it can do. i know its not one of the two you mentioned but i imagine these two might cost abit more but it might be worth it in terms of extra power to keep the laptop cool.

Does anyone know where to buy the Vantec Lapcool4 (LPC-420 OR LPC-430)? I've been looking online for a few days now, and have yet to find one. I've tried EVERY online store that's listed on Vantec's "Where To Buy" page, no one has the Lapcool4 at all. It's like it's a non-existant piece of hardware. eBay doesn't have them either. I've done searches for every possible thing I could think of (Vantec, LPC, LPC420, LPC-420, LPC430, LPC-430, Lapcool4, LapCool4, Lapcool 4, LapCool 4, Lap Cool 4, Lap Cool 4, etc.) Is this thing still in testing, or what? I REALLY want the LapCool4 for the foldability, Hub, and it's general appearance. I'm HOPING someone has some idea where to get one of these. Thank you all.
