??? Missing RAM

Hello,

Please excuse a message from a Laptop owning technophobe!

Here's my specs:
Toshiba Equium A60-152
Pentium 4 3.06 Ghz
3.07Ghz 256MB RAM {From specs-see below}
ATI mobility Radeon 7000 IGP

My problem:
I noticed when running a new game that the laptop (hardly ever used) was running slow, so I tracked down the relevant 512MB RAM upgrade and installed it - no problems!!!

Or so I thought :
I checked to see if the RAM had been installed correctly (via the control panel) and noticed that the RAM was only showing as 448MB. I uninstalled the new card and checked to see if my 'original' RAM was as it should be, it wasn't. It was only showing as 192MB. I don't know if this was always the case as I hadn't really taken much notice of this before.

If anyone could avise me as to where to find my missing original RAM, or where the rest of my newly installed RAM has gone I'd be really grateful. I ashamed to say I know very little about computers, so I'd be even more grateful if you could speak English, and talk slowly (as if to a five year old!!!)

Thank you

Some laptops use a portion of the system memory for graphics memory. I would bet this is the case here.

yeah, that is exactly what's going on here.

I have the same problem. P4 2.8ghz with 256mb. 192 available for system.

If you want it more stable, i recommend a memory upgrade. very simple to do.

They will sort you out. Very good value. Just remember to use the system scanner on the website to determine what type of ram your pc is using.

If you aren't sure how to change the ram, get someone who knows what they are doing to do it for you.

I've just ordered a 512 mb card for £44 ($81) with free delivery for orders over £25 ($46)

Graphic card uses 64 MB. as shared memory(U.M.A.).So 64 Mb.System memory is given to card for usage.
