XP Pro slowed down my laptop??
my compaq evo ( 1gb Duron) was running nicely with xp home edition, when I decided to format and install xp pro.
since installing pro (obviously I installed all latest drivers) everything seems to run quite a bit slower. Takes longer to boot up, takes an age for all anti-virus etc to load on startup, slower internet too. am I missing something obvious?? |

If you don't use the laptop for gaming I highly sugguest loading Linux on it. That is what I did on my old Compaq Presario, and it's never run that good with windows!

try microsofts "bootvis" after defragging, there is no difference in speed with pro and home, obviously something is hanging the system on bootup.

updates all rolled in a nice and neat litle package. (updated monthly) Negates the need to use windows update. Also make sure you have auto update turned on... Also in my experance a sliptreamed OS CD give mea better result then installing XP then upping to Sp2. But that my not be the case if your CD is sp1 already.
