Acer Ferrari

Anyone have this laptop? Do you recommend it? It's kind of pricy bit it looks good, inside and outside. Planning on buying it when the price drops, anyone got any problems with it?

Looks like a very solid lappy. Almost picked up one of these.
However, there are other alternatives with similar specs and lower prices.

Pass on it. It may "look" like a solid laptop with very nice specs, but I've worked on a number of them to know that they can be really picky, and they aren't as well built as people think (although I like the slot design of the DVD drive). You can easily run into driver problems with that laptop as Acers drivers for the series can sometimes be wrong on their site (I won't mention their terrible web support... erm.. guess I just did). Twice I had to hunt down the specs, and then hunt down generic drivers for the ethernet and modem, and both times had to manually force the drivers to install. 2 other problems would be overheating, and the battery life just plain.. well, sucks. There are other points as to why you shouldn't, but I think THIS posting speaks volumes.

As daedal said, there are better alternatives out there. Ones that will perform better, and are even cheaper than the Ferrari series (which retails for $2000 US). I would look to Toshiba Statellite P30 (the Canadian version has an ATI Mobile 9700 which I linked to, yet the US version doesn't) or a Toshiba Tecra S3 (US version has an Nvidia Go 6600 which is linked, Canaidan has ATI X600 Mobile), or if $2000 or above is about right for you look at Alienwares Area-51 (if this going to be for gaming, pick this baby), or Dells XPS Gen 2 (however this is a very expenive choice).

As a side note, if you're a resident of Canada you can't get an Alienware credit card for monthly payments even though they list it as "For as low as XX$/month CDN"
Bad, bad marketing team! *Slap*
