Updating chipset?

I downloaded a graphic card driver update, the site said (requires BIOS update see below)

been getting graphic corruption after about 10mins of playing a game, like cod. i used to play it ok, about 6mths ago, but i updated drivers when i couldnt play cod2 because of gfx corruption, so i thought sod and tried to play just cod.

i downed the bios update and that went ok, also i downloaded a:
Product: Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility
* Release: Production Version
* Version: 5.1.1.1002
* Target Chipset#: ICH4-L
* Date: December 5, 2003

what does that mean? seems a bit old for an update? where do i find my existing one on the laptop to see how old it is? and what version?

also the 3d benchmark seems really bad, is it?

thanks for any help

You can get chipset drivers at http://www.support.intel.com

Other than that, many other things cause graphics corruption in games. The fact that your's comes after an amount of time worries me that heat may be the cause. You can help this by taking a can of compressed air and blowing out the vents (and heatsink if possible) of your laptop. This can stop deposites of thermal dust (on your processor and card) from heating your laptop too much. Also, if heat is an issue, a cooling pad usually helps quite a bit.
To help more, you should post some screenshot of COD with the graphics corruption.

Welcome to DH, btw, enjoy your stay here.

edit: Any other information on the laptop (Brand/series) will also help.

hi Vikingod and thanks for the welcome, seems a great board.

Installed the chipset anyway..lol

Dont think its a heat prob, in fact the lappy seems cooler than ever now i have a 1" gap under it, and after some updates.

Gave all the vent a good clean, with the hoover, sucked it good..lol

How do i take a screenshot of the game?

not sure is COD has a built in ss mode (usually F12), but with a program like FRAPS, they are easy. Also, you can press the PrintScrn button on the keyboard, get back to windows, and paste it into ms paint. make sure to save it as a JPG file, bitmaps are too large.
