I got an Error
This morning, I was surfing and playing yahoo pool on my laptop. Out of the blue, I got the blue screen of death. It sat on it a while, saying *KERNEL-STACK-INPAGE ERROR*. It took a while to dump the physical memory. A long while. It's blue screened now 5 times in the last 8 days. Even to the point it took two days of just sitting there, unpluged and no battery, to reboot, because it was saying there wasn't a harddrive in it. I haven't installed anything in weeks. I finally got a scan disk and defrag run on it. Even the SMART feature said the HD is good. Would anyone have any ideas?
It's a HP Pavillion ZX5190US. 3.2MzP4, 1028ram, 64mb(124 shared)Ati Mobility Radeon 9600. It's been running Omega's cat 5.7's for about 4 or 5 months now. I'm clueless at this point. |

Could be a virus, I'd run a scan if you can. You may also want to run a test of your memory (http://www.memtest86.com/).
Here are the ms solutions http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;315266 http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;228753 Try reseating your adapter cards in the mainboard. And that they are clean (canned air). It could be many things, such as bad memory, or a problem with the mobo (my guess), or a problem with the HD (dont believe SMART). edit: i didn't notice you couldn't start the compy. It sounds like your HD is having problems. Try running Chkdsk in the windows recovery console and see what it gives you. |

Viking, it took 3 days to get it to where it would run Check Disk. During those three days, when I would go into BIOS, and try running it there, it would say something saying that the software wasn't compatible with the hardware. Also, the HD activity light on the front of my lappy wasn't lighting up, kind of telling me that the HD wasn't psinning up. Of course, when I took it in to the store I have my extended warranty through, it booted right up, so they suggested I reformat first, then bring it back if it kept having problems.
I'll give the memtest a try. As for the mobo, I really doubt that's an issue, but this is an HP, so who knows. Anything is possible at this point. |

OK. I did some more researching. I found out, through reading a lot of other forums, and Microsoft's website, that the number one culprit of the errors I'm having is an intermittant problem with the hard drive, due to premature failure. Since it's out of HP's warranty, and my extended warranty through the store would have it in the hands of total tools, I decided to call Toshiba, the manufacturer of the HDD itself. They explained to me the procedures for getting it RMA'd and it turns out it's warrantied until Jan of 07. WOOHOO! Gotta love digging for information on the net.
Hopefully, once they get it and test it out, they'll find the problem and replace it. |
