Stolen Laptop!!!

Ha, that got your attention!

OK, if you ran a buisiness, and one of your employees had their laptop stolen, what sort of questions would you ask them. I am more interested in sort of security related questions than questions like (what the hell were you thinking taking your lappy to a hockey game!).

Examples might be the standard "Was it password protected?" or "what programs were installed?" "what identifiable information was on it?"

Anything you guys can come up with, specific, general, doesn't matter. List them all here. Thanks!

ps. all links to pertanent sites will also be appreciated.

I'd be really apprehensive about answering this question publicly because in asking the questions you request, clues would be given to the one who stole it as to what to look for...

hmm.... i'm trying to think of methods of seeing if you could lock the computer down or track it. I mean, it's got specific programs on it, be it windows, or something that would define it enough to make it obvious if it was your employees laptop or not..

i'm just not at it though aside from looking for the serial numbers and whatnot that you've got stuffed somewhere for records reasons. Giving the authorities the nessary information that if they do find it, they know who's it is.

...and the model and serial number information is generally kept in the bios setup program of most laptops.

no, this is completely hypothetical (I didnt word it right). There is no stolen laptop.
I've a project at work to create a questionaire and a policy for Internal Audit to follow in case of a stolen laptop. I was wondering, with all the IT experience here, if others in their careers have any information/opinions on the subject. I've found many things on the net, but they all say sort of the general stuff. I want something from a real technical side, from those who know the specifics and other things most normally wouldnt think of when it comes to the real damage a stolen laptop can cause.
