Linux* Support for Intel ICH7R RAID...

Linux* Support for Intel ICH7R RAID Technology
http://www.intel.com/support/chipset.../CS-020663.htm

Quote:
A Linux* kernel 2.4 patch is available for customers using Linux who are interested in using RAID 0 or RAID 1 on chipsets with the Intel® ICH7R controller hub. The driver works in conjunction with the Intel® Matrix Storage Manager option ROM distributed with ICH7R chipsets. The driver understands RAID 0 or RAID 1 volumes created with the option ROM or within Windows*, and allows booting of Linux to these volumes. It is particularly useful when there is a need for compatibility with other operating systems using those RAID volumes.

This driver and documentation is available at http://iswraid.sourceforge.net/ † or http://sourceforge.net/projects/iswraid †.

Please note that this driver does not contain all of the functionality provided by Intel Matrix Storage Manager; please read the documentation carefully to determine if it will meet your needs. Also note that this patch supports 2.4 kernels only at this time.

This driver does not provide the capability to set up RAID volumes, but requires that RAID volumes be previously set up using the Intel Matrix Storage Manager option ROM or Windows* driver. For users who do not dual-boot, Linux provides native RAID solutions such as dm and md that may provide the necessary functionality, as well as full administration within the Linux environment.

The information contained on this page is only mentioned here as a courtesy by Intel as an alternative proposal for interested parties. Because Linux distribution vendors can incorporate the iswraid driver as they see appropriate, Intel cannot be responsible in any way for the content or operation of these drivers and does not provide any warranty or guarantee of any kind with respect to their usability, suitability or performance for any application. Please contact your Linux distribution vendor directly with questions or for more information. You should contact your Linux distribution vendor for support.

UberLord will become famous soon enough

That page is over a year old!

And what relevance does this have over other software RAID solutions in Linux? Do people (aside from slackware users) even use a 2.4 kernel anymore?

mdadm is what you want to be using as that configures 2.6 kernel software RAID options very well.
