merry is on a distinguished road

Is it 32 bit or 64 bit?

How can I tell on a 64 bit Unix system if an already installed app was built for 32 bit ?

Thanks in advance

Try running "file /path/to/file" sans quotes.

For example, on my machine, "file `which kopete`" outputs:
Code:
/usr/local/bin/kopete: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (FreeBSD), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped
