video/audo drivers for gentoo

well I've combed thru the stickys and gentoo fourms for alittle wile now and can't find anything of much help- I would like to know how to go about getting video drivers (ati radeon x1950xt) and audo drivers (Realtek 850 7.1channel AC'97 audio codec) working in gentoo.

all that I've found so far is that someone was having problems with an ati HD2400- but i don't understand how it was solved.
