WinXP + RedHat9 file sharing
Anyways, here's the situation...
My Internet connection is on the WinXP Pro machine(SJNSERVER). There's another machine(SJNCLIENT) which was also running WinXP Pro. To share Internet connection I turned on sharing on SJNSERVER & used these 6 settings in SJNCLIENT: IP Address: 192.168.0.5 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (SJNSERVER's IP) Preferred DNS Server: 10.0.0.30 Alternate DNS Server: 10.0.0.20 Both PCs are member of the workgroup: SJNETWORK This worked fine for me. But I've decided to install Red Hat 9.0, which I did. I used the above settings in the Network configuration in RedHat. I can access the Internet without any problems. But I can't access the shared folders in SJNSERVER anymore. I also want to share some folders in RedHat, which can be accessed by SJNSERVER! I've read a lot of guides & stuff, like about the SAMBA server but none were helpful. And now I'm more confused. Another thing, what should I put at these sections in Network Configuration in RH9? In the DNS tab, Hostname: localhost.localdomain DNS Search Path: localdomain In the Hosts tab, Address: 127.0.0.1 Hostname: localhost.localdomain Aliases: localhost Are these correct? Any help would be highly appreciated!

You're on the right track with SAMBA - thats the package that allows Windows networking with *NIX stuff.
RH9 should come with Samba server configurator that allows you to configure SAMBA to work on your network. I haven't actually used it myself yet, but could play around with it over the weekend if you're having problems. BTW, the hosts stuff is really only relevant to your local machine Good luck!
