Not 100% sure, but I think there are Creative XFi drivers for Linux on the Creative site. IIRC they use OSS not ALSA, but I'm not sure how good they are, I can only get front channel out of my onboard sound as well. 6 speaker test wav just gives me front left, front right, I've given up trying to get it to work!

Really I never played with the surround under Ubuntu with the onboard sound maybe I should try that out and see if I get the same thing. Is it the Abit board in your system specs that you are running Linux on?

Re: Need Help SB X-Fi Extreme Audio souncard ubuntu
Hey Mac Daddy, Linux is running on my media centre, an Asrock 939Glan NVIDIAŽ GeForce 7050 / nForce 630A MCP Chipset (ALC888 audio chip), trying to output 5.1 via analogue jacks(x3) front left and front right work fine, everything else is silent (and unmuted believe me I've checked!!)

Re: Need Help SB X-Fi Extreme Audio souncard ubuntu
To get the newish X-Fi driver to work you first have to switch from ALSA to OSS.
I had a link to how to do this somewhere but right now I can't find it. I suggest you go to ubuntuforums and ask how to do it there, I know for sure you'll get help there. |
