Problem with linux ubuntu! Please Heplp meeee!!!!

Hey! Firstly I have to say i'm new in ubuntu and not really experienced computer man in general! Please Help me! I have an acer aspire 5738 laptop with intel dual core processor T6600 (2.2 GHz, 800MHz FSB), ATI Mobility Radeon 4570 512MB graphic card, 4GB RAM and all these run with Windows Vista. I tried downloading ubuntu via wubi instaler. I run ubuntu and it worked just fine with all the graphic features of the system turned on. The next day the pc was unable to load ubuntu! The system was loaded but propably something went wrong with the graphic card! It was playing the login sounds and generaly everything seemed to work fine except the monitor! It stayed just displaying the purple login page (without even showing the login box)!! I've uninstalled the ubuntu and tried to load it again but nothing changed! I've tried it many times... The first day works fine but the next stays to the empty purple screen... The monitor works fine... Vista run with no problem... Anyone has any Idea???? Please help me!

Did you activate the proprietary gfx driver after installation?

Well, as I have already said I'm a new one to these things so I'm not totally geting what you say! Can you be more specific???
Anyway if you're talking about the Recomended driver by the system (a window popped which recomended me to download, install and activate a specific driver) yes, I have installed and activated it! Sorry for waisting your time in propably stupid questions but I guess the Book "how to use pc for dummies" was made for me!

Well, you can always try to boot it up in failsafe mode and see if you can get in that way. If you do then you can be certain that it's the gfx driver.

I don't remember exactly what it looks like right now, I have to boot up ubuntu myself to give you the right instructions how to check.
