Very newbish Linux question:

With Redhat9 how do I change the boot from going directly to the gui. I want it to go to the command line and no further.

You have to change it so it starts at runlevel 3 instead of runlevel 5. Offhand, I don't remember how to do that because I refuse to use distros that force that, but I'm sure the answer is pretty easy to find.

Ok, found it. Open up /etc/inittab and change "id:5:initdefault:" to "id:3:initdefault:". That should work. If it doesn't, I think you need to kill some symlinks.

Nah - thats all you need.

Just ensure that you don't have xdm, gdm, kdm or whatever graphical greeter you use running in level 3
