Actually a multi OS problem here and two different problems that may be related
kind of old school too. ( please read the whole post ) Problem 1 My computers at work [ windows 98se ] are networked [ through the com port ] to our [ unix ] server that runs our dealership management system [ inventory, pos, accounting, etc ] program, I have noticed that the program, when running on my windows terminals, are using 100% of the cpu time to operate that program. When I need to go online to place orders I can defiantly tell it slows browsing down. Is there a way to set up 98se so that when DMS program is in the background or minimized, it uses less of the cpu time? My unix server, is a: P-III 450mhz using PheonixBios 4.0 Release 6.0 and the network card is a Computone Intelliport II My windows terminals are: Dell GX-240, P4 1.5ghz, 98se ----------------- Problem 2 The other weird problem that I have and I don't know if it's related or not but it bugs the crap out of me. This happens on 4 of the 7 terminals, only the ones that use the invoicing part of the program Lets say I'm in [ my unix program ] the invoicing part and I type in the part # I'm selling then I hit enter, which then brings up the description, price and some other info, and takes me over to the next field, to enter a selling qty, and hit enter; then I have to hit enter two more times to get down to the next line to type a new part # entry...and so on and so on. What happens is: after I type the part # and hit enter, all the stuff that's supposed to display on that line is all garbled up, sometimes you can make it out and other times not; but you can still enter your selling qty, hit enter and enter two more times and it will take you down to the next line like it's supposed to and all, but that line display is still garbled and probably the next line you do will be to. It will print out the actual invoice correctly every time. Sometimes, you can arrow back up and then down arrow back through the fields and it will straighten itself out, other times it will garble it up again. Other times it just locks the program up and that terminal has to be re-booted [ the unix signal part of it ] and sometimes I reboot the pc too, because it seems to let it go longer in between lock-ups. ------------------ Any help what so ever will be greatly appreciated. I thought maybe it's because the terminals are so much faster than the server, but the programs tech support guy said no, it might be the servers harddrive showing signs of going bad. ![]() I do regular monthly cleanup and re-organizing of the systems [unix] files and regular defrag and full scan-disk on the windows pcs'. So what do you think? .

Contact whoever wrote your software. This sounds like a software issue.
