rookie linux

i'm windows user from the beginning, but i'd like to try linux with gui. which is the best for rookie in linux?

I'd say Fedora (new RedHat) as it's got a very very easy installation and setup.

After you get a little experience with how Linux based systems work (ie, working in the /etc directory) then move to Gentoo

Or if you've got the patience (~1 day) go for Gentoo right away! Installations not too hard if you know about partitions, file systems and a little networking

But you need a fast internet connection and preferably a fast PC to compile with.

Otherwise, go Fedora
