Default Post MSI K7T 266 Pro2 RU+RAID+Linux=Not working

Seems the newer kernals can see the Promise RAID controller but not the raid partition. All it sees is the individual hd's on the raid controller. Has anyone gotten it to work with linux? What distros did it work with?

So far I've tried Mandrake, getting ready to try RedHat. Even when I disabled the raid Mandrake still would not install on my system. It would get to the partion hd's and either lock up, or give me an error.

There are claims that Red Hat has a kernal in the distro specifically for the promise controller.

Any help would be great!

*cough* newbie *cough*

Well, I have Red Hat 7.3 running on my system now. Still no RAID. But from what I've read it is more trouble then it is worth right now. So far I am enjoying my first Linux experiance!

I read in some forum, either this one or http://www.littlewhitedog.com linux forum that SuSE 8 configured with raid support right out of the box. I can't confirm this cause I have a raidless KX7-333.

Default Post raid linux etc.

try the promise tx2000 drivers, they are suggested by promise as drivers for lite and full versions of their latest controllers. did it successfully with my 2 kt333 boards and the kt266 one, so... i purchased suse 8.0 and exatly followed the promise readme 2 get this 2 life....
and u should give http://www.lumberjacker.de a shot, modded bios-versions 4 many boards with raid and udma, stunning.... have fun

AFAIK Linux only supports RAID with SCSI and not IDE. I've recently (last night - lol) stopped using my IDE RAID as it was causing too many problems in WinXP....

Please clarify

Can it use a single partition across multiple drives?

If so, whats the controller and what distro are you using? Did it work out of the box?

in suse 8.0 i could get the promise raid + udma 2 work with both versions, onboard promise
on asus a7v 266 e + asus a7v 333 + msi kt3 ultra aru...
even when flashed 2 full raid controller (not the lite one ) it worked fine 4 me, but only after following the step by step manual of promise themselves in their tx2000 linux driver readme..
try it 4 your system, it`ll work... i`m a linux newbie and i got fired up and working so u guru`s
should have really no problem... and if so, try http://www.lumberjacker.de download section, udma drivers and bios combo`s 4 many boards + controllers, really working...

have u brought your raid controller back 2 life 4 the use with linux? or do u still think of afaik
when talking about ide-raid in linux? what distro and raid-chip do u want 2 combine? there is a solution 4 almost every raid-chip with the big-name distro`s, and if not, maybe some lumberjacker bios files may do the job... if u cannot follow lumber sometimes, maybe i can try 2 translate???!!!???
as i said a few posts b4, i`m a linux newbie, and it`s really interesting 2 me, putting a network 2gether with this "other" os, most is the answer 4 a never asked question, install is a pain in the *ss, with totally diff. computers, u always need at least 1 m$ mashine 2 surf and serv, but maybe the future doesn`t belong 2 m§ alone, so ...

i.e.: http://www.promise.com/support/suse2...&product_id=88

Thanks for that - but I decided to ditch the RAID after a few problems.

In a real world environment, IDE RAID level 0 isn't really that much faster in many situations and caused more problems than benefits. Well, in my case it did. Might just be a crappy RAID controller

I have had great luck in Win XP with the raid. But I have been using the modded bios to get full RAID. You can get them here:

http://kunibert.50megs.com/favorite_links.html

Linux is good, but it just isn't quite there for me. To much software I use alot is not linux compat, and there aren't any good alternatives for most. Maybe when it become a more serious contender..... or gets taken more serious.
