Yes again..recommendations

Hi guys, this seems like a freindly place so here goes,

I've tinkered with Linux in the past and currently have suse 8.1 pro installed (just the 1st disk)/win2k

I am receiving some new hardare very soon and plan on using the celery for a http/ftpserver and the p4 for my "entertainment"/"productivity" center The server will come factory with xppro an it and the p4 with home. I've had 2k servers up before and all have eventually come down due to "intrusions" and my own mistakes. But this time the servis going up for a busness idea and i've learned that linux doesn't propogate virusses well and is also not as large of a target. SO for those reasons i want to go linux for the server. (see sig for future harware)

Also, I just am not to thrilled with xp becasue MS insists on having my profile and harware configs listed in their data banks (call me old fashioned) SO i want the closest thing to an entire linux desktop solution
that i can slowly migrate to. (I am encouraged with the news of increased gaming and ms office support)

SO. 1---best server solutuion ?
2. Best desktop soluion?
3.) how the pda support?

With Linux, there is no "best" solution.
For example, BIND is recognised to be the "best" DNS server as it does pretty much everything
However, it's not the "best" for my needs and dnsmasq is a viable alternative for small LANs

Here's what I use on my server
Apache 2
ProFTPd
Postfix
Courier IMAP
Spamassassin
ClamAV
MySQL
PHP

I use GNOME on the desktop and GTK office apps like AbiWord, GNUmeric, Evolution

BTW, Evolution syncs well to my palm pilot
