I want to get the new Mandrake beta but i was wondering what one to d/l the PCC or the i586 what is the diff.?

ok i think i figuered this out but i want someone to check this just incase. The i586 is for pentium based pc's (or regular home pc'c and shouldnt have a problem with amd or any other cpus) and the the PCC is for mac pc's?

I think thats it, the PPC is for PPC based processors and i588 for Pentium based processors, can someone confirm that?

Uh PPC= Power PC = Macintosh. I586 = Intel Pentium 1 and above... BUT DOES NOT EXCLUDE AMD. The AMD and Intel are both based on the x86 architecture. For an AMD cpu download the x86 version. :/ Hope that helps

cool thanks also should d/l that or Red Hat anyone have on suggestions on which one would be batter for a begginer?

I'd go with Mandrake if I were you.

IMHO don't donwload anything... just do the Network install off of a mirror... that way you only d/l the packages you select. Saves time and bandwidth.

um..ok theres a problem one im on a 56k two if it is possible how would do it?

Err... you mean the network install? With a 56k i can see you having problems downloading linux either way. :/ (you'd probably be better off buying a Distro from your local computer store)

But in case you were wondering

find and download the Bootnet.img file for your specific distro (Mandrake, Redhat, Suse etc...).
Then rawrite it to a disk.
I do see you having problems finding the appropriate modem drivers though.
