Dell Inspiron Laptop 9100 Linux X server ?

Hello,

I am trying at eh moment in vain to get my shiny new Dell Laptop 9100 with Radeon 9700 128mb Mobility machine to run on any type of Linux
Seems there is just no X support for this machine. Any ideas greatly appreciated , has UXGA screen 1920 x 1200 .

Have currently tried Redhat and SUSE.

regards,
Cliff

Have you installed the proprietary ATI drivers? That would be your best bet.

I have tried the ATI drivers but they appear to be only for Desktop machines not the Mobility chips.

UberLord will become famous soon enough

The XFree drivers should support 2D
There are patches against a version of XFree (4.3.99.16) that allow 3D support for mobility chipsets

Perhaps I need a later version of XFree ? I even tried some commercially available drivers but no 9700 support.

I'll have another go at configuring Xfree , I have most everything running on another NEC laptop but this one is much more advanced.

Don't know if it is possible but try installing it as a mobility radeon 9600 instead of 9700
I don't know why but even dell is giving the 9600 the same device id's as the 9700
So basically it's the same card with better speeds, or there are still no 9700 drivers available.

I've been looking for 9700 drivers but they all install the same as a 9600.

Worth the shot right?
