Sad Wireless on Suse 9

I installed Suse 9 and Windows XP on my laptop. Everything worked great except I am having trouble with my wireless card in Suse. I have it set with my SSID and a static IP. The drivers and modules for the card load fine but I am unable to even surf my network. I installed KWiFi Manager and it shows the MAC of my A/P but in the lower left corner of KWiFi Manager it says AccessPoint: UNKNOWN. I have gone in and checked all the settings for the card and everything looks fine. I have it set for managed but I still get no where. Anyone else set up wireless in linux and have any luck??

UberLord will become famous soon enough

I wrote some wireless setup and configuration scripts for Gentoo - so I guess I know a little

How did you go about installing the kernel stuff? I you had to download a third party driver, then you still need to enable wireless LAN in your kernel config, recompile and install it. Then you need to install wireless-tools.

At this point you should be able todo
Code:
iwlist eth1 scan
to show a list of available AP's. Replace eth1 with the interface name for your card.

Well Suse 9 has all the dirvers in it and it recognizes my card. The problem I am having is the card is turned on but for some reason it sends no signal out in managed mode. The only mode we can get to work is Ad-hoc. The 2 linux gurus here at work are totally stumped. Heheh I love stumping them too...

well the Linux Guru's threw the towel in on me and Suse. Looks to be a driver problem and we can't get it to work no matter what drivers we try... SOoooo I have now installed Knoppix Linux and that works perfect. Time to play with Kismet and Nessus
