Fedora Core 2 final

DistroWatch writes:
Quote:
Although the official announcement is not expected until Tuesday, 18 May, several news sites have reported the availability of Fedora Core 2 via BitTorrent. This is from Slashdot: "You can grab [Fedora Core 2] in both the 4 CD or DVD versions." The code name of Fedora Core 2 is reportedly "Tettnang" and, since this is a major new release eagerly anticipated by many users, we have taken the liberty to publish the Fedora Core 2 Release Notes on this web site (just to give you something to read while the long download completes). Enjoy your Tettnang, which, by the way, is a town and a major hop growing area in Germany :-)
Does anyone think of getting it?

Although i usually don't use Linux due to damn proprietary hardware, i think this, in some way, is good news for the Linux community. While i've never actually used, let alone tried Fedora or other RedHat distributions, they have a good reputation in the "non-1337" Linux groupings.

Sure, Fedora Core 1 had a few (critical?) problems, and hopefully, they'll be fixed in the Core 2. One of the things i'd personally like to see is better support for FireWire audio without reconfiguring the kernel (like i had to in Debian)

If i had to recommend a distribution to a newcomer to linux, it'd probably be a choice between Mandrake 10 or Fedora 2. Of course, distributions like Gentoo or Debian offer a bigger slice of customizability, but the actual difference is rather small

After experiences with RedHat, I'm sticking with Gentoo.

I also maintain a custom ebuild for generic wireless configuartion and startup which integrates with Gentoo's networking scripts so that's a factor as well

FreeBSD works for me. It's good that they are making Linux easier to use though; hopefully more people will start to use it.

It got officially announced today: 4CDs, 2.1GB + source CDs or 1 DVD ~4GB.
I'm interested in trying it: can anyone suggest an online shop that would make a copy and ship it for low price?

If you want to download via bittorent don't use the link on Fedora's main page. Somethings wrong with it I could not connect to the tracker, use the european one instead it works much better.

I'm getting it.

I've been using Fedora Core for school and it works fine I really like it. So I'm getting the DVD FC2!
